Rockstar has stayed consistent on one point: Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC version on that day. Preload, the retail box, and Japan’s code rules sit in a Rockstar Support article updated June 24, 2026.

This guide turns that document into a short checklist. If you are reserving a copy, it helps to know what actually reaches your console and what the box does not contain.

Day-one platforms

PlayStation 5, including PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S are the confirmed platforms. Official listings are live on PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. Sony lists the title as a native PS5 release. Microsoft confirms Smart Delivery: one purchase covers Series X and Series S.

Rockstar has not published a PC date. GTA V reached computers months after consoles. That history is not a promise for GTA VI. Until Rockstar says otherwise, this countdown only uses November 19 on PS5 and Xbox.

Digital preload: November 12

Digital reservations can start downloading at local midnight on November 12, 2026. The point is to have the install ready for the 19th. Support does not list an exact file size; leave SSD space that week.

A pre-order does not unlock the campaign early. It only unlocks the download. The game itself opens on November 19.

The physical box has no disc

Rockstar is blunt: the physical version contains a download code. There is no disc in the box. Retailers can ship or hand over those boxes from November 12 so the code can be used the same day preload opens.

If the code arrives before the 12th, redeem it and the download starts when the window opens. If it arrives later, you wait on shipping. There is no physical Ultimate: buy the standard box, redeem the code, then buy the digital upgrade.

In Japan, Rockstar notes that codes expire 170 days after the issue date, which is November 19, 2026, under local rules. If you buy in that region, do not leave the code unused for months.

Digital versus physical

Both paths give you the same game. Digital means you buy on the console store or Rockstar Store, preload on November 12, and, if you reserve before November 20, pick up the Vintage Vice City Pack and the GTA+ month. Physical means you pay in a shop and receive a box with a code. Support says that box includes the game and the Vintage Vice City Pack.

The practical difference is the disc. There is none. If you care about optical media, this launch does not offer it. If you care about playing at midnight on the 19th, a digital reserve plus the November 12 preload is the more predictable path.
