On August 6, 2026 Rockstar announced an Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto VI for August 27. It did not call the film Trailer 3. On August 27 it released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look: nearly 27 minutes of footage captured on the PlayStation 5 build.
The piece premiered on Netflix. Hours later Rockstar posted it to YouTube and its own site. That is the first long, authorized look at gameplay after two cinematic trailers (December 2023 and May 2025).
What it is (and is not)
An Extended Look is not a two-minute trailer. It is a long, narrator-free walk through Vice City and the state of Leonida with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar billed it as an extended look at the world, not a systems briefing.
Fans used “Trailer 3” for months. Rockstar never did. If you want the official video, the title is Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. It lives on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and at rockstargames.com/VI. YouTube usually age-restricts it.
Netflix first, YouTube after
The Netflix premiere was 3:00 p.m. Eastern on August 27. Rockstar and Netflix treated it as an event: subtitles in several languages, and a green light for creators to post reactions. Rockstar’s own upload hit YouTube that night.
The exclusive window lasted a few hours. If you do not have Netflix, the film is free on YouTube and on Rockstar’s site. The company also offered a 4K download. You do not have to pay to watch the official cut.
What the film shows
The video leans on mood, the two leads, and places across Leonida. You see chases, shootouts, robberies, and open-world downtime: basketball, diving, and other idle hours. Press who saw extra Rockstar footage flagged new systems, but the public piece is a tour, not a tutorial.
Rockstar is clear that the footage comes from the PS5 version. It is a sample, not a substitute for the game. Launch stays November 19, 2026.
The week around it
Unauthorized clips circulated the week before. Rockstar published a statement on August 26, the day before the premiere, and asked people to wait and see the game on November 19. The date did not move. We cover that episode in our August hack article.
The Extended Look is the first long piece Rockstar actually wanted you to watch. If you want an official view of the world, that is the link worth keeping.
